SOAP is a simple practice that invites us to behold Jesus in the Scriptures, observe what God is saying, apply it to real life, and pray it into action.

Read the passage slowly. Write down a verse or phrase that stands out. This is where beholding begins, pausing to notice what the Spirit highlights, letting the Word capture your attention.

Look closer at the verse. What are you seeing in the verse or passage? What do you see about God’s character, His heart, His ways? What do you notice in the details of the story? What is clear and what is still unclear? What do you think the author is trying to communicate? What truth did you learn? Write down your observations, thoughts, or questions. This is about noticing, not rushing. We observe with curiosity, trusting that God is present in the details.

Ask: How does this connect with my life today? What invitation is God extending to me through this text? How is this text inviting me to live differently? Where might God be calling me to trust, surrender, or love more fully? Application isn’t just about “to-dos” but about living into the reality of the kingdom, shaping the way we think, act, love, and trust. What truths do you need to believe? What actions or behaviors do you need to repent of? Write down a practical way you can apply these truths. Application is where beholding moves from seeing to becoming as we let the Word shape our lives.

Turn what you’ve read and noticed into a conversation with God. Pray the Scripture back to Him. Invite His Spirit to make the Word alive in you and help you apply it in your life. End by resting in His presence, allowing the truth of the passage to settle into your soul.
